Evans enters race for governor in Dec. letter

In a Dec 11 letter Gen Clement A Evans formally declares candidacy to replace Gov Northen. W Y Atkinson neither confirms nor denies running, but is believed to oppose Evans for the nomination. Christmas casualties report three runaway incidents with several injuries and a mule accident on Hampton street.

A Feast at the Windsor with Col Wheatley and guests

Col George D Wheatley hosted a royal style supper at the Windsor last night in honor of a young lord's arrival at his home. Col Tom Lane joined as co host and wine flowed freely as toasts were raised to the baby boy and his papa. Alliance meeting and speaker energize Sumter district fans

A large Sumter district rally at City Hall drew hundreds of prominent farmers from Sumter, Schley and Webster counties to hear S A Walker speak. Ellington was absent, Walker defended the alliance as nonparty and beneficial across political lines, while merchants missed the talk due to busy Christmas shopping.

Court to Adjourn Friday Until Second Week in January

Judge Fish will suspend civil hearings through Friday and reconvene in January to tackle the criminal docket. Jurors were drawn, the grand jury adjourned to January 8, and the bar’s petition led to the recess. Harris et al versus the former Americus Furniture Co concluded. a decree on distributing sale proceeds is expected today.

Holiday Train Schedule Boosts Local Merchants

The A. M. railroad will run two holiday trains next Sunday to aid shoppers. A southeast line train arrives at 10 55 a m from Helena and ends at 4 30 p m in Americus while an western division service from Omaha Lumpkin Richland arrives at 10 15 a m and returns at 5 p m. The schedule, praised by merchants and residents, runs through the holidays until January tenth.

Americus Investment Company Lands to Be Sold in January

The Americus Investment Company real estate will be sold in January to satisfy bonds. Special commissioner John W. Wheatley will conduct cash sales in front of the courthouse in Americus. Mortgages total 259000 in 6 percent bonds, 100000 in 8 percent bonds, and 50000 second mortgage, with Union Central Life holding 25000 first mortgage on the DeSoto plantation and Bank of Southwestern Georgia holding 10000 second mortgage.
