Washington December 13 Secretary Bliss is expected to resign soon to devote more time to personal business interests and will not reflect any disagreement with President McKinley or advisers. Official word says Bliss would retire when a suitable successor is chosen and the president has not announced a date.
A woman writes about Dr. R V Pierce of Buffalo praising his thirty years of study in women’s diseases. The article extols his Favorite Prescription as a key to restoring health and strength, claiming it surpasses other medicines and that expert medical guidance benefits fragile patients.
The Legislature voted a 10 000 appropriation to the Textile department of the School of Technology. Other actions included reconsidering a railroad property tax plan, defeating a dispensary bill in Bleckley Early county, and Cabinet delays as President McKinley nears reception. Jesup Ga December 13. Bob Brewer the desperado who killed deputy marshal Willem Barnhill and wounded W. Woods and Marshal B. R. Leg has been captured three miles from Johnson station. Deputy Lyons and deputies Pri and Fichiack with Janother located Brewer. He shot Annie Francis as discovery occurred, then was shot by Deputy Sheriff Price and Sheriff Lyons. He died after transport to Savannah to avoid lynching. Brewer had not been far from Jesup since the riot except Jacksonville Florida.
An explosion at the Indianola and Hiathawa mine near Poteau, Oklahoma, last night killed at least five workers and left twenty five trapped as the shaft burned. Rescue efforts are underway though intense heat and earth overburden hinder retrieval.
The New York cotton market opened seven points down amid narrow trading. A sharp intraday slump followed, with heavy selling from southern and European holders and liquidations yesterday. Buying support from limited investment and improved outlook later helped the market recover some losses.

Philadelphia banker Gidern We Marsh, former president of the wrecked Keystone National bank, was sentenced by Judge Butler in U S district court to 12 years and three months in prison and a $500 fine for conspiracy involving false bank entries and reports to the comptroller. The court heard Marsh profited nothing from the bank’s losses, with defalcation exceeding $1,000,000 cited by the prosecutor.
Senators Beery and Rawlins propose amendments to the Nicaragua canal bill restricting cost to 116000 and creating a government lien while removing Maritime Canal stock shares. Another amendment seeks war fortifications rights and control of the route, as Congress debates seamen laws and bill passage.
