Martin Nominated for Virginia Senator on Sixth Ballot

At a Virginia Republican conclave General Hunton withdrawn earlier, Lee and Martin emerged as front runners. On the sixth ballot Thomas B. Martin won 66 votes to 58 for Lee, beating Goode and Holmes Conrad for the senatorial term starting March 5, 1885. The assembly cheered as Martin's name was proclaimed, and the convention adjourned.
