Negro Burned at Stake in Kentucky Mob Rooftop Lynching

Darteking Coleman, a Black man accused of murder, was seized by a mob of about 1,000 in Maravilte Kentucky and burned at the stake. He was dragged through streets, bound to a sapling, and a brush fire consumed him while onlookers numbered in the thousands. Relatives of the victim reportedly rode the train in hopes of safeguarding him, but law enforcement could not intervene. The incident follows a tense period with a planned trial in Maysville and heightened fears of mob violence.
