Plains Club Formed By Local Matrons In Plains Georgia
In Plains on Wednesday afternoon last week Miss Ethel Carter hosted a club for young matrons and ladies, named The Widow Club. The first meeting featured Forty Two and other games won by Mrs. J. H. Williams who received a handkerchief prize. A fruit salad concluded the gathering. The week also saw a Thanksgiving dinner hosted by Mrs. R. B. Evans attended by Rev. and Mrs. Charles Phillips and several local residents. Thanksgiving services were quiet with children’s recitations and a keynote address by Rev. J. S. Knowles. An evening program featured Col. E. A. Nisbet speaking on Joel Chandler Harris, entertaining the audience with eloquence. The Lutheran service Sunday morning drew a large crowd under Rev. Phillips’s theme. Many local residents travelled for holidays, and numerous social calls filled the period.
