President Coolidge sent nominations to the Senate today including Federal Judge Leonard Hand for circuit judge in the second circuit. Also named were M. Gore for Agriculture Secretary Wilbur J. Carr and John Van MacMurray as assistants to the Secretary of State, James Rockwell Sheffield to Mexico and Edgar A. Bancroft to Japan.

Washington Dec 2 Henry M Dawes Federal comptroller of the currency has told President Coolidge he desires to resign his post No reasons for the resignation have been given but the action is reported as definite and imminent.

Governor McLeod refused requests to commute the death sentences of Mortimer N. King and Frank Harrell for the murder of Major Samuel H. Leary in Chesterfield County. Judgment for Midland Bank in £125000 Suit

London judge Justice Darling today ruled for the Midland Bank in a sensational case brought by Charles E. Robinson former bookmaker seeking 125000 pounds. Robinson claimed the bank owed him from a settlement with the unnamed Indian potentate known as Mr A. The plaintiff alleged a blackmail plot to obtain a million dollars from the prince after Mrs. Robinson encountered Mr A in a hotel suite. The case centered on alleged hush money and a complex scheme involving the Indian prince and Robinson.

Ministers Harrell and Massey Leave Americus Churches

Rev. Luther A. Harrell and Rev. Milo A. Massey depart Americus this week to take new pastorates in Cedistown and Macon Georgia. Massey left Monday for Cedistown to lead a Baptist church while Harrell travels with his family toward Macon, stopping in Oglethorpe for the night. Rev. W. M. Heyward will fill Harrell’s pulpit in Americus and will move here with his wife and child. No Massey successor yet. a committee led by Col. W. T. Man Killed Wife Shot in Birmingham Affray

Birmingham December 2 Sam Sims was instantly killed and his wife wounded when he and Vester G Glenn exchanged gunfire at Sims home over domestic troubles. Glenn, leaving the premises, shot back and was arrested in connection with Sims death.

Prison Commission Hears Youths Plea in Murder Case

In Atlanta the Georgia Prison Commission will hear lawyers for Gervis Bloodworth and Willie Jones, two Taylor County youths sentenced to die for the murder of H F Underwood, a medicine salesman. Homer Beeland seeks life imprisonment on grounds of youth and drink influence. decision rests with Governor Clifford Walker. The pair were convicted in Taylor County Superior Court after Underwood was found slain on a lonely road on December 3, 1923, and were indicted December 10 and tried December 17.
