Norris reported as staying near the hogs, later attacked by Belle and Caroline with fence rails. perpetrators fled, investigators unable to locate them. The governor vows to return convicts to the mines if necessary, with militia support. A consultation between Governor Buchanan and Brigadier General Nasavitis in Nashville followed reports that about 900 of 425 released convicts have been recaptured.

Louis Nov C Mn Taubeneck of Illinois and W S Morgan met a citizen committee to arrange a national convention of labor and farmers organizations for February in St Louis. Delegates will come from Farmers Alliance, National Alliance, Patrons of Husbandry, Patrons of Industry, Trades Federation, Knights of Labor and Reform Press. The People’s party will be seated by its executive committee but likely not send delegates. The gathering aims to be one of the largest ever for third parties. King and Kaneas are mentioned in a fragmentary note.
