Preston residents report visitors from Plains Weston Richland and Mineola. Miss Maude Stokes Miss Marguerite Stevens and Ralph Stevens return from Tybee and White Sulphur Springs. Mr T Cobb Tharp departs for Leesburg to take a bank position. The First Baptist meeting led by Rev Wellens and Dr Cutts concludes with strong attendance and many dedicating themselves to the church.
After a month there relatives the infant child of Mr and Mrs Hugh Ferguson is improving much to the pleasure of their friends. Mr and Mrs Don Goodman of Macon returned home after spending several days here as the guest of Mrs John T Ferguson. Mr Ed Ferguson of Chokee was among the visitors in town Tuesday. Many friends of Mrs Frances Simmons are sorry she is confined to her home with illness.
Regular correspondent notes the fall term at William's school house begins this week with Miss Emma Wiggins teaching. A long list of local visitors and social visits follows, including families from Rylander Hillaville Blakely Bottsford and Bronwood, plus health notes on H W Wiggins.
Mrs J Butt of Americus organized a Woodmen Circle in Leslie and Mae Summerford visited Plains. Wilson Pryor of Fitzgerald toured Leslie. Marilu Jenkins and Florrie Summerford visited in Leslie and Americus. The Misses Song of Atlanta visited Mrs W M Laramore. Mrs R L Reeves and son Nunn travel to mountains for two weeks. Rain dominated the week, with sun hoped for soon.
DeSoto Georgia Aug 27 Mr John Cocke suffers a severe left hand cut at his plantation saw mill doctors fear amputation of two fingers. Mrs Charles Malone leaves for White Springs Florida for a week. Miss Zera and Lillie Cocke back from ten days at White Springs. Mr and Mrs George Jones return from Americus. Roy Jones and wife travel to Sumter for funeral of Mrs Webb aunt to Mrs Jones then visit friends for a week.
Community updates from Cobb Georgia list residents visiting Americus and Cordele, travel for medical and business matters, and local improvements. A fire last week damaged a store near Cobb with partial insurance coverage. Also advertised is a gentle milking cow and young heifer calf for sale along with a Chattanooga plow.
A Friday night gathering at City Hall aims to form a Young Men's Democratic club. Despite Bryan Kern support, enthusiasm runs low in Americus, but younger Democrats see benefits in organization to mobilize voters and support future campaigns. The meeting starts at 8 and will be brief.
In Camilla Georgia, a shooting affray in Mitchell county left William Keyton, a well known farmer, seriously wounded in the lung after a neighbor fired from behind a peach tree. Both men held rifles and exchanged shots amid a cotton field encounter.
Memorial notice honors E H Cheek born in Franiti County Georgia who died at age 79 after a long illness. He joined the M B Church South at 14 and served 65 years as Sunday school superintendent and steward. A Mason for 60 years with Mineral Springs and Furlow Lodges, he hosted friends, attended services, and embodied charity and hospitality.
