Health Board Accepts Bond Resignation at Monthly Meeting

Sumter County Board of Health met at the courthouse to accept the resignation of Dr. B F Bond as county health commissioner. Bond, located in Savannah for weeks, accepted a surgical position with the United States Marine Hospital there offering better pay and more opportunities for experience and study. The board, led by Dr J W Chambliss and Neil A Ray, discussed the county budget and plans to request 5550 from the county commissioners to sustain health work.

Negro farmer harvests Savannah first cotton bale

Savannah August 27. Chat ham county's first blue of cotton was grown by a colored farmer. The bale weighed 471 pounds and was bought by the Ander son Clayton Cotton company for 24 1/2 cents per pound. It was graded good middling.

Two Killed in Running Street Fight in Kittsburg

In Kittsburg Pennsylvania last night a gun battle between two factions at a Wylie Avenue club spilled into the streets. Two men were killed one wounded by a bullet in the knee about fifty people were arrested. A letter found on one dead man was addressed to John Gianniroglia. The wounded bystander was Harry Swisher of Altoona. Arrested include club proprietor Thomas Ri ous and alleged gunman Petro Marino.

LaGrange merchants prepare to organize a Merchants' Retail Credit association. At a meeting Monday night at 7 30 at the courthouse, retailers will discuss forming the group. Ra Dixon, a well known young accountant, has interviewed many merchants and found strong interest in the plan.

Fitzgerald Aug 27 Funeral services were held here Sunday for Albert L Nobles a prominent Irwin county farmer who died at his home after a lingering Brights disease. Funeral services will be held tomorrow afternoon at Satilla church where interment will occur.

Cordele on Aug 27. The Kiwanis Club held a mock state legislature at a meeting. Famous state leaders were impersonated and at least five gubernatorial candidates announced. Several laws and amendments were passed or sent to committees. One bill sought to ban marriages to reduce divorces.

Savannah chapter of the American Red Cross reports 203 war veterans aided in July. The cases included locating men or relatives, arrears of pay, funeral claims, headstones, victory medals, insurance, and vocational training and dependency claims among support provided to ex service men.

Seaboard to Put on New Pullman Flyer

Seaboard Air Line will inaugurate the Seaboard Florida West Coast Limited, the first limited all Pullman train between Boston and New York and the Florida coast. The service begins December 3, targeting the winter tourist season, announced by passenger traffic manager C. B. Ryan.

Alleged dope peddlers jailed in Jacksonville

Four men claiming Tampa residence were arrested by detectives in Jacksonville on suspicion of plotting to distribute narcotics. They are L Puglisi 27 Joe Vizzie 25 G P Roberts 32 and Basil Puglisi 25 Basil carried a pistol. A small opium package was found on Basil and kept as evidence.

District K of P Convention Set for September 3

The Fourth Pythian District convenes in Buena Vista on September 3 at the Pythian Cattle Hall with Judge John C. Butt presiding. Ice truck blaze shocks Macon residents

Macon on August 27 reports a loaded ice truck catching fire while fueling a station. Gasoline reportedly ignited, flames spread to the truck, and firefighters quickly extinguished the blaze as surprised bystanders looked on.

Three Day Poultry Show Scheduled in Tifton

Jacksonville August 27 The Postal Bulletin warns of new counterfeit federal reserve notes from the Chicago bank with two variants. One features D face plates 208 back 583 and signatures of D F Houston and John Burke plus Grover Cleveland portrait. the other, D face 207 back 618 with same signatures and portrait. Both show poor lathe lines and prints and are easy to detect.

First sugar cane of season brought in at Waycross

In Waycross on August 27 the first sugarcane of the season arrived. A red variety stalk from D. W. Morgan’s farm, about five miles south of the city, was brought to town by S. L. Leverett who grew it.

The annual Sumter county fair catalogue for Americas to be held September 25 to 29 is being mailed today. Printed by Times-Recorder Press, the handsome edition includes premiums, business ads from over a hundred merchants, and a circulation of about 2500 copies. Secretary Henry P. Railroad Officials Gather In Waycross

Waycross August 27. About one hundred traffic representatives of the Atlantic Coast Line will visit Waycross September 8 for several hours for an inspection of the A. C. L. shops and other property in the city. Included are general freight agents assistant freight agents and off line men who liaison with other railways.

Negro killed as white man fires at random in Savannah

In Savannah last night an unidentified white man rode through the streets firing a revolver at random. One black man was killed and another wounded. Police say it appears to be a drunken shooting up the town, with no race clash or riot indicated.

Lively rifle fire about polls in Dublin

Dublin August 27. A lively out break of rifle fire occurred in Dublin early today. Balloting in the Dail elections continued with Free State troops patrolling the streets. The result could not be forecast but it is believed Free State forces will retain control of the government.

Three prisoners escaped from Fulton county jail hospital last night by sawing window bars on the fifth floor. The escapees were Will Rich a man with life terms Geo Poole serving 15 years for robbery and W H Turner awaiting trial for car breaking.

Four Drowned as Auto Plunges from Ferry Boat

Knoxville Tenn August 27 Four persons are dead and one near death after an automobile plunged off a ferry boat at Louisville Tennessee on Sunday. Two others suffer severe nervous shocks. The deceased are Mrs Jefferson Lonas Mrs Lucille Counts Miss Elizabeth Counts and Miss Ernez tine Lonas. Jefferson Lonas is thought to be dying of double pneumonia from the plunge.

Two Men Killed When Struck On Tracks Near Gore

August 27. James Bradshaw was killed and Frank Williams fatally injured when struck by a Missouri Pacific freight train near Gore Oklahoma late last night. A companion escaped injury and said the two men were asleep on the tracks.
