Syracuse Aug 26 William J Bryan continues a brisk New York tour boarding a train from Utica at 7 15 am after a late Utica meeting. He addresses crowds in Rome and Syracuse while defending silver coinage and attacking opponents. Judge Stone in Chevetano denies Brown Hoisting company injunction against reinstating workers, ruling damages for breach of contract provide adequate remedy.
Insurgents burned over 40 coffee and cocoa plantations in Santiago de Cuba province, including Aurora Sompatia and Delorita estates, with losses over $1,000,000. A decree banning coffee and sugar planting will be enforced. An insurgent attack at Banes led to village burnings and sieges, while clashes near Cayames left leaders killed or wounded. Dynamite bombs derailed a passenger train, and a separate report cites Cuban resistance actions and filibuster activity abroad.
