Albert George Whitehead an American citizen formerly of New Jersey was released from Portland convict prison after thirteen years of penal servitude following a London conviction in 1883. He is believed to sail for the United States soon and is reportedly mentally unbalanced from prison treatment.
The Italian ship Francisco Ciampa reports collision near the Scilly islands on Aug. 20 sinking the French fishing boat Mouette. Fourteen crewmen drowned, ten saved. Ciampa built in 1890 sails Castel-s Mare and sails Swansea to San Francisco.
