Colon el Elijah Ashcroft denounces disfranchisement threats as the group storms out, vowing to vote against the nominees. The Davidson county delegation adjourns without organization. Corey's Little Siteshow. Ispiaxavoris Aug 22 Populists renounce alliance with General Coxey amid pay investigations and debate over his speaking fees.
The Spinners Association executive committee again weighs strike prospects as Kerr Threw mill reportedly offered terms, while members with Sanford Spinning Company protest any wage cuts. Weavers threaten action if pay remains unchanged as conditions at Har Gravis and Above mills grow tense and the treasury faces claims.
Aug. 22 dispatch notes cabinet members expect the tariff bill to become law without the president’s signature. They cite statements attributed to Mr. Cleveland before leaving Washington and say the president has not written since his departure. If signed, the bill would take effect under the constitutional provision allowing laws without executive approval after ten days.
In San Francisco on August 2 a new Salvadoran consul Dr Enustoriio Calderon replaces Carlos A Yrigoyen. Calderon, a German-trained physician born in Guatemala, sides with prowar government forces and opposes the Ezotas. Yrigoyen’s stance and quick eastward trip hint at Haotn sympathy, while Rex Exeta’s favored appointment by Yrigoyen fuels speculation.
Aug. 22 report from New York says the British steamship Cain arriving from Charleston will carry 8 large consignments of arms and ammunition to Yokohama, amid shipper secrecy for 8 tons of cartridges and 10 tons of rifles. The cargo may fill the ship’s 3,100 ton capacity. Also noted is Korea’s June 40 move declaring independence from China and appealing to Japan for aid to expel Chinese forces, with Korea breaking all treaties with China. A separate Waco rate war shows railroads offering Washington excursion rebates, while West Virginia factions fear a Wilson-Camdemand clash influencing Senate races.
