Poultrymen Form New Organization in Sumter County

About fifty poultry breeders from Americus and Sumter county completed a permanent organization Friday at the Chamber of Commerce in the courthouse. Hollis Fort was elected president, John Wise vice president, and T O Marshall secretary. The group will oversee the Sumter county fair poultry exhibit September 25 to 29 and promote purebred poultry with expert instruction and cooperative sales. Meetings are set for the second Wednesday monthly at 10:30 a.m. in Chamber of Commerce rooms.

Navy reports no Santo Domingo disorders. vessel movements studied

Washington officials say no word of disorders in Santo Domingo today yet they are examining naval movements from Panama. Such movements are not normally reported to Washington, but officials expect notification if disturbances occur.

Richmond Plant Quelled Disturbance After Laborer Death

August 18 police rushed to the Hermitage plant of Kmgan and Co in Richmond after a crowd gathered following the shooting death of laborer Nathaniel Goodwin. Foreman Satterwhite survived an attempted attack, mistaken for Godwin. Police quelled the disturbance but reports of trouble persisted at dawn.

Atlanta Skyscraper to Be Largest in the South

August 18 report states two massive wings will be added to the Hurt building at Hedgewood avenue and Exchange place. Joel Hurt, president of Atlanta Realty Corp, says construction will begin within thirty days. At a Tea Room meeting John D. Mathis Post American Legion voted to cooperate in boosting Sumter County fall events. A strong committee led by Major Jas A Fort and Evan Mathis will plan a Legion program for the Chamber of Commerce show. Marie Wainwright Actress Dies in Scranton Notice

Marie Wainwright, actress who supported as leading woman to Booth and Salvina in their 1888 starring tour, died yesterday in Scranton, Pennsylvania. The actors' guild was notified of her death early today.

Odd Fellows Meet Griffin and Spalding Delegations

Griffin and Spalding counties plan to send large delegations to the Eleventh Division Odd Fellows meeting to be held in Thomasville on Saturday August 25. The Eleventh Division includes Spalding Pike Upson Monroe Lamar Butts Henry Fayette Meriwether and Troup counties.

Announcement here today lists the new faculty for the Third District Agricultural and Mechanical school for the year. Principal Prince says the session starts Monday September 8 with full registration in all departments. Three new instructors include Prof O E Waller and others from Alabama Polytechnic Institute.

Manager Tom L Bell announced the probable lineups for today’s Little World Series opener between Albany and Americus. Albany features Slappey on the mound with Cameron at catcher and Hallman as the opposing pitcher for Jacksons crew. Americus lists Nolan at second, Williams at third, Elmore in left, Jackson in right, Brannen at first, Folmar in center, Lindsey at short, Duren catching, and Hallman pitching.

American Legion Post Elects New Officers in Americus

Post No. 2 of the American Legion in Americus held a smoker and annual officer election with about fifty members present. Commander R. L. Crawford will retire. new officers include Commander R. C. Lane and Vice Commander R. L. McMath Jr. Others elected are Adjutant H. Russell Branch, Treasurer J. E. B. McLendon, Chaplain D. C. Burkhalter, Historian Edmund M. Oliver, Sergeant-at-Arms Luther Kiewitt. service officer J. E. B. McLendon to be named by the new commander. Retirement officers include Crawford, Cox, Westbrook, Walters, Howell, Lane, H. S. Kelly, and J. E. B. McLendon.

Typhoon Hits Hong Kong Harbor Fatal Toll Reported

August 18 Hong Kong officials report a severe typhoon striking Hong Kong harbor. Many ships were driven under and others sought refuge. A British submarine was lost with all hands except one survivor who brought word of the disaster. A British merchant vessel is also listed among the missing.

Ocean Mail Robbery Disclosed At Pan Canal

Panama August 18. A mail robbery potentially large in scope was disclosed today. Registered mail aboard the steamer Heredia traveling from New Orleans and Havana to the Canal Zone and Central South American countries had been rifled and several mail bags stolen.

Barretts to Face Extradition Hearing in South Carolina

Four members of the defunct Barrett & Co. cotton firm of Augusta will be heard Monday by Governor McLeod in Columbia, S C, over their extradition to this state on charges of obtaining money under false pretenses. The hearing will proceed through counsel, following a request for extradition.

Cotton Consumption Falls By July Totals in Bureau Report

Washington reports July cotton use totals from Census Bureau showing 461,575 bales of lint and 44,775 bales of linters. June figures were 542,166 lint and 49,635 linters, while July last year stood at 485,002 lint and 55,502 linters.

Salvation Army Heads to Leave Americus

Capt Luella Knox and Mrs Sarah Guest will depart Americus August 29 after four years serving with the Salvation Army. They have not yet received new assignments and will be removed from the Americus post. The Americus Army post, established during the war, has helped relieve suffering and been a leading uplift group in the community. Continued on Page Two.

In Friday's Times-Recorder a golf article headline failed to name the winner. The corrected report states Middleton McDonald won the club championship with Mr Rylander as medalist, amid apologies for prior misstatements by the club publicity committee chaired by Evan Mathis.

Walker seeks attorney general advice on mob suppression

Governor Clifford M. Walker requested the attorney general opinion on the extent he may lawfully act to suppress mob violence in Georgia. He plans to move vigorously once given guidance. Separate report from Milledgeville notes J. J. Nolan, tied to a recent reform school mob, waived a commitment hearing and remained held on $500 bail for January trial.

Early Texas governor orders rangers to quash floggings

Acting Governor Davidson moved to quell reported floggings in two more Texas towns. A detachment of state rangers was ordered to Port Arthur after two citizens were kidnapped. An investigation began into a Wichita Falls farmer being whipped, and rangers already in Amarillo have arrested suspects in the flogging of a railroad laborer Tuesday night.

Local Merchants Agree to Close for Little World Series Game

An agreement signed by numerous Americus merchants requires closing their stores from 3 PM until after the baseball game at the Playground Monday afternoon. The first Little World’s Series game pits Americus against Albany, with up to seven games planned. Signed merchants include Bragg's Market, Piggly-Wiggly, Americus Drug Co., Rex Shoe Shop, Murray's Pharmacy, and many others.

Miss Orr Becomes George's Secretary in Atlanta
