An explosion at Hi Motor Co. in Selma Alabama damaged the vulcanizing shop about 1200 dollars. Debris injured several bystanders fifty feet away while workers in the department were unharmed. A gasoline tank nearby was torn open by hot sheet iron. The blast rattled windows a block away with no serious injuries reported.

Death of Miss Ranew After Long Illness

Miss Jennie Ranew died at 12:30 pm after a lengthy illness. A Sumter County native, she lived all her life in the Americus area and was widely known. Survived by three brothers L W Ranew J M Ranew and H W Ranew of Schley County and three sisters Harriette Mary Ann Ranew of Schley County and Bessie Burte of Leslie. Funeral at 3:30 pm at the family residence with Rev LeRoy G Henderson officiating, interment in the family cemetery.
