Big crop means low price says council
Americus banker L G Council says a large cotton crop and drought in Texas will set prices. He estimates 13 million bales could yield 22 cents per pound to farmers, 12 million would yield 25 cents, and under that about 30 cents. He cites discussions with New York bankers and cotton factors. In Sumter County he expects 23 000 to 25 000 bales, credits good weather and approved farming methods for a brighter season ahead for farmers in Americus and the region, with Texas drought determining overall output.
