Ex Governor Atkinson, longtime Democratic leader and two term chief executive who defeated General Evans, died at his Newnan home after ten days of illness. He was 8:52 this morning and had been unconscious for hours before death.
Dysentery caused the death of former Georgia governor and longtime Democratic leader Atkinson. A prominent state figure, he directed the party's machinery, served as governor after defeating Evans and Wright, and spent years in the legislature including a term as speaker. He died at 46, survived by wife and children. noted for courage and political foresight. In the Philippines, 11,297 enlistments are recorded to date with discharges in progress. In another item, George F. Bell is discharged after claims he stole a letter connected to Carranza.
The Rennes court martial opened at 7 10 am with Captain Dreyfus entering pallid yet composed. Guards tightened security as crowd size remained small and officials prepared to review the secret dossier behind closed doors.
In a tense courtroom Colonel Jouaust questioned Alfred Dreyfus regarding the bordereau and alleged relations with a foreign power. Dreyfus, wearing eyeglasses, denied the charges, proclaimed his innocence, and demanded to be heard as the crowd watched a dramatic, sobbing but controlled defense.
Manila August 8 Aguinaldo has appealed to foreign powers for recognition of Filipino independence in a July 27 document from Tarlac signed by Buencamino. It was received by all foreign consuls in Manila who were asked to forward it to their governments.
Aston Ohio report of a grim tragedy near the city shows Edward Eckinger, his wife, and their eight year old daughter found dead in a bed. Mrs Eckinger is believed to have killed her husband and child with a shotgun before attempting suicide with a knife and finally using the shotgun again. The man Eckinger was 26 and a farmer who had been drinking.
