LAYING IN A STOCK OF SILVER
The cotton picking season raises demand for silver change and often causes premiums of 5 to 10 percent. Americas banks buy $30,000 to $40,000 in small coins from the Treasury, quickly circulating or being hoarded. The Bank of Commerce received $10,000 yesterday, with other banks to follow. if merchants issue change and avoid hoarding, silver shortage will be prevented nationwide.
