Committee Approves Intesurcharge Bill in Georgia

Atlanta August 2 House committee on general judiciary number two favor ably reported the bill by Representative Bennett Dodge removing the Pullman surcharge on all intrastate traffic in Georgia. The committee referred a reform measure for public accountants and recommended passage of a county salary study. It also approved two Fulton county measures placing the solicitor’s captor court and the city court on a salary. Representative Oke backed a bill to end the surcharge on Pullman farms as unfair, noting North Carolina and Virginia practices. He said passage would save Georgians $150 000 yearly.

Dougherty's First Bale Sold Friday

Dougherty county's first bale of cotton was ginned Friday by Planters Gin Company in East Albany. Raised in East Dougherty by W. F. Fleming, the 507 pound middling bale sold to the Georgia Cotton Company at 40 cents a pound via Albany Warehouse Company. Fleming held the earlier Dougherty record in 1922 with a bale on July 21.

Georgia Senate Bill Protects Farmers From Weak Poisons

A new measure introduced by Senator Pace would require all agricultural poisons sold in Georgia to meet defined standards. Calcium arsenate must have at least 40 percent arsenic pentoxide 0.75 percent max water soluble arsenic pentoxide and density 80 to 100 cu in per pound. Buyers may recover purchase price plus 7 percent interest if the poison fails standards. Existing Department of Agriculture inspection remains, with the act extending buyer remedies.
