The Hand Rosenwald Training School in Pelham was dedicated Friday with a corestone laying by local colored Masons and Knights of Pythias. The $9,000 to $10,000 modern building will provide vocational training and serve the county’s colored population. a large crowd attended, with many white supporters. Music by the Georgia Normal Agricultural College band accompanied the program, and speeches were delivered by state and Tuskegee officials. A noon barbecue followed the ceremonies.
In Prague April 30 1930 NEA report William Philip Simms warns Czechoslovakia a bordered landlocked nation could vanish in a European conflict. With a 141000 strong army two years service and French guided staff, the country seeks peace amid threats from Hungary and neighboring states. Tomorrow note claims Czechoslovakia has two George Washingtons.
In Waynesboro on April 30 Rev J E Seals pastor of the First Methodist church killed himself by a brain billet just before 10 am. He left a note saying it was either the asylum or death and had been in ill health since his wife died a year ago. He was to lead morning services when he died and named a Macon sister to be notified with instructions for his four children.
Dr LePrince warns that 12 and 14 mesh fly screens fail to stop mosquitoes and urges counties to stock only 16 mesh wire. He links screening to fighting malaria dengue and typhoid, stressing a serious outbreak risk for Americas and the need for community action across schools churches and workplaces.
The Federal Reserve Bank of Atlanta reports March conditions across its district show broad gains in retail and wholesale trade with Birmingham, Chattanooga and Atlanta leading. Merchandize stocks rose 2.8 percent while turnover dipped to just under two times a year. Wholesale sales rose except for stationery and drugs, with shoe dealers up 46.3 percent and farm implements up 85.6 percent year over year. Early cotton prospects brighten in Florida, Southern Georgia and Alabama despite recent freezes, with acreage increasing outside the usual belt.
In Richland on April 30 a common hen egg arrived at The News office with markings resembling hieroglyphs. An apparent letter D and the number 14 were visible, while many other markings remained unidentifiable. The egg was brought by C W Kilgore who gathered it with others.
Ellaville April 30 Funeral services for Mrs M E Dozier 83 a Sumter county native were conducted at her home by Rev B L Jordan. She married R M Dozier in 1857 and moved to Ellaville in 1905. Survived by four daughters two stepsons and one son.
The U S Supreme Court overturned Attorney General Daugherty’s ban on serving liquor on American ships on the high seas. It upheld that prohibiting foreign ships from bringing liquor into U S ports under bond remains legal and enforceable. The decision limits applying the prohibition amendment to ships outside American territorial waters and reverses Judge Hand’s earlier ruling.
In Lausanne on April 30, Soviet representative M. Vorovsky protested that Russia was arbitrarily kept out of the Near East peace conference. He said Russia must sign the convention on the Turkish straits before admission and enter the conference on full terms of equality, arguing the invitation terms were violated.
City meat and milk inspection department begins use of official seals on all inspected carcasses with Dr. S F Stapleton issuing marks. Farmers selling dressed meat to Americas must bring carcasses with viscera for inspection before sale. Dr. J W Chambliss reports state milk inspector Dr Brannen will sample local dairies for bacterial counts. First dairy examinations found all in good sanitary condition. Citizens keeping cows and selling milk privately must have premises inspected and register with City Clerk Gatewood with a 20 cent monthly fee per cow.
A period of generally fair weather is indicated for the South Atlantic and East Gulf states until near week’s end, when unsettled showers become probable. Temperatures are expected to be near normal.

In Paducah Kentucky Mrs Rosetta Daughtery 34 was killed when dynamite exploded under her bed in the corner front room of her home early today. Her three children were uninjured. A woman is suspected of planting the charge and authorities say insanity jealousy motive and clues point to an immediate arrest. Mrs Warren who slept in the adjacent bed died with her unborn child.
New York and Pennsylvania enter a constitutional clash over federal power sites on navigable streams. Gov. Smith argues energy from the St Lawrence and Muscle Shoals belongs to states. Gov. Pinchot urges federal jurisdiction to unite the Northeast grid and enable cross state electric distribution and a national system.
J G Imboden head of Illinois Stock Association visiting Sumter county with Dr A Geddes of Washington to study South Georgia stock raising. The party toured C C Hawkins farm and pastures, lunched at Windsor hotel, and plans to publish impressions in a national livestock journal. Geddes will use data supplied by George O Marshall. They proceed to Thomasville and other South Georgia areas.
Special Officer J C Arrington began a second round of sanitary inspections after reporting the residence section clean in regard to mosquito propagation hazards. He left warnings in the first round and will summon uncooperative residents to recorder's court to explain or face a fine. Dr W Chambliss said authorities will press all noncompliers.
In Waycross on April 30 Professor Harrison of Mercer University notified Piedmont Institute president W C Carlton that a committee will visit Tuesday to inspect the school and discuss its future. The committee is touring Brewton Parker Institute at Mt Vernon and Norman Institute at Norman Park. Local friends await the decision on Piedmont Institute's future.
