Mrs. John entertained her club at a new home on College Street with an afternoon of rest and games. Prizes went to Belle McCrory while Straw and wares were served. Visitors included J. A Sunday School Convention in Americus was noted with a detailed church program and decoration efforts for a cemetery memorial by the U. D. C. members.

Death claims Mrs Elizabeth Wilkerson in Smithville
Mrs Elizabeth Wilkerson aged seventy one died suddenly at her home near Smithville after returning from a call. She had been a Primitive Baptist for forty two years. She leaves a son J L Wilkerson a brother G W Israel a sister Mrs G W Wiggins a step son T E Wilkerson ten grandchildren and many relatives. Her body rests beside her husband in Smithville cemetery with services led by Elder W T Everette of Dawson. Pallbearers named John Hearn Will Young Roscoe Matthews Carl Beauchamp Henry Lunsford Fort McAfee.

Plains High School declamation contest opens season
Plains Ga April 27 The preliminary declamation contest for seventh and eighth grades at Plains High School drew a large audience. Five speakers were chosen to compete for the declaimers prize at commencement Carrie Oliver Catherine Oliver Leila Bacon Lucy Kate Clarke and Theresa Walters earned spots from the two grade levels. Commencement runs May 22 to 24 with a sermon on the 22nd.

Telegram from Congressman Dudley M. Hughes in Washington reports he has been telegraphing across the South to locate cotton seed amid price spikes. He notes Leyden improved beat cotton seed at Columbia, SC, about ninety cents per bushel and urges farmers to contact Ira Williams of Columbia. N. L. Willett Seed Co. in Augusta, GA also has supply at about eighty cents. Hog prices cited at $11 per hundred.
