The Chamber of Commerce adopted a resolution to promote a Sumter county fair again this year. Secretary Perkins reported strong demand for a continuation of the fall fair started last year and urged immediate preparation. The group also discussed adopting a city manager form of government for Americas and referred the matter to the forum committee, possibly prompting a special chamber meeting.

Buick Crank Incident Damages Porch on Lee Street
A Buick car, started in gear, slipped from Charles Hogg Jr at an artesian well on Lee street around 10:30 pm Saturday. It ran into the north end of the Bryant cottage porch at Church and Lee streets, owned by Miss Carrie Speer, causing a heavy impact and frightening Mrs. L. W. Bryant with no injuries reported and minimal car damage.

Huntington Chappell, formerly of Americus and now in Richland, underwent appendicitis surgery Friday at Wiss Sanitarium in Plains and remains in serious condition. Influenza developed Saturday followed by pneumonia. his mother and Mrs. C P Chester, mother of Mrs. Chappell, are at his bedside.
