Washington reports friends of Hiram Johnson gather to weigh his presidential bid as Michigan, Illinois and Nebraska returns stream in. Johnson denies plans to quit while Calvin Coolidge holds a roughly 110000 vote lead on the general Michigan Illinois Nebraska tally with most precincts counted.
April 10 Omaha Coolidge leads Johnson by about 30,000 with a small count of precincts still unheard from. Towns and counties await final tallies as the race narrows in Nebraska.
Chicago reports indications that Coolidge’s final Illinois Republican preference majority over Johnson may reach 150000. About 900 of 5658 precincts are still unheard from as returns come in from the April 10 voting.
In Atlanta on April 10 Police Judge Johnson and Acting Chief Jett unveiled a campaign against mashers tied to loafers. Jett said three of five loafers are mashers and all will be rounded up. The plan aims to shield night shift workers and protect nearby women, with Recorder Johnson promising maximum penalties for convicted mashers. One masher recently fined $50.
Atlanta April 10. Terrell county public schools plan consolidation to four or five centrally located schools. High school work centralized at Bronwood Graves Parrot and Lasset with grades limited to seven in surrounding schools. Achievement tests show superior results, more experienced teachers and better equipment.
Secretary Wilbur announced a new naval policy to protect the government from leases like those under former secretary Denby. In a letter to Senator Hale he said no navy department lease or contract will be made without the personal approval of the secretary of the navy.
Washington April 10 The new revenue bill was formally reported to the senate today alongside a Democratic tax plan with an income tax schedule similar to the Longworth plan. Adopted by the House, it was rejected by a Senate finance committee majority. The Democratic plan is expected to gain Republican insurgent support. It imposes a top surcharge of 40 percent on incomes above 500000 versus 25 percent over 100000 in the finance bill.

Paris April 10 Plenty of Time will be taken by the reparations commission to review the experts reports headed by General Dawes and Reginald McKenna. They may hand over documents to governments without further deliberation to speed settlement before elections.
Paris reports cautious satisfaction with the reparations document though concern persists about Germany's response. The commission delivered copies to Berlin via the German war damages representative, and officials plan an unofficial meeting Friday to decide on referring the report to the respective governments for action.
Six Nashua policemen equipped with two machine guns and side arms were sent to Dover at officials' request to quell a riot linked to a strike. The action occurred on April 10 as Dover officials sought assistance from Nashua authorities.
