Captain Roald Amundsen leaves New York in an all metal monoplane bound for Cleveland on the first leg toward a four year drift across the North Pole aboard the Maud. The expedition plans two airplanes, 100 tons of food, and daily radio weather and ice reports to the world while scientists accompany him.

Leslie April 10 Union High school opened the season by routing Andersonville 19 to 3 on the Leslie diamond. Bradley pitched for Union High striking out 15 while allowing six scattered hits. Victim of Alapaha Buried in Nashville

Dorsectt Rob erts, 15 year old son of Mr and Mrs W M Roberts of Alapaha was drowned when a boat overturned in the Alapaha river during a fishing trip with his father The father had a narrow escape and the body was recovered about three hours later buried in Nashville cemetery on Saturday afternoon

London April 10 The police barracks at Broadford County Clare occupied by official Irish Republican army units were attacked at 2 am with an exchange of fire lasting some time. Captain William O'Brien in charge of the besieged party was fatally wounded. No further details available.

The Norris resolution to create a government owned Muscle Shoals corporation was introduced in the Senate with immediate reference to the agricultural committee. Tifton Presbyterians in Tifton will remodel their church at an estimated cost of $5,000 with an architect drafting plans. The roof will be lowered the interior redesigned and a new front and Sunday school room added. A Waterloo picnic raised $2,600 toward the project.

Organization in Non-Union Fields Halted

Federal Judge McClintock issued an injunction against the United Mine Workers of America to stop organizing in West Virginia. The Borderland Coal Company and sixty-two other operators filed the petition as the union, amid a national strike, targeted about 100000 non-union miners in the field.

Captain H N Thomas Dies at Athens Home

Telegrams announced the death of Captain H N Thomas after 30 years in Athens. He died at his daughter Mrs E Ross’s home on Boulevard Avenue. Brother of the late Dr F A Thomas, he was a familiar visitor to the Thomas home here. Funeral services were held Sunday at 5 pm with interment at Oconee cemetery.

Stolen bicycle recovered after chase on Lee Street

Frank Lawson a druggist investigated a missing bicycle reported by a negro boy. He and Talmadge Crabb pursued a suspect, Tex Marshall, south of J W Howard farm, overtook him near the farm, and held him at the county jail awaiting charges.

Negro shoplifter cuffed after stealing sardines in Arles

Sam Jackson, a Negro laborer on the Arles Plantation, is jailed on shoplifting charges after taking several boxes of sardines from a Piggly Wiggly store Saturday afternoon. Manager Snow identified the suspect as he attempted the theft.
