American Confederate Veterans from Camp Sumter No. 642 UCV prepare for the annual reunion set to begin June 3 in Memphis Tennessee. Camp Commander Joe Day Stewart remains in Florida but many veterans expect to travel, despite many having passed away since the last gathering.
Skillman Young of the International Harvester Company clerical staff in Jacksonville returns home to visit his mother Mrs S H Young on McGarrah street. He will depart for Norfolk Virginia next week to begin wave training as a student in pharmacy. A 1923 Americas High School graduate he earned high marks in school and has worked as a bookkeeper in Jacksonville earning praise from officials and coworkers. After Norfolk’s course completion he is expected to be assigned to a world cruise.

Lincoln Apr 9 Frank Harrison campaign manager for Hiram Johnson conceded the victory to President Coolidge at 11 this morning. Coolidge led Johnson in Illinois by about 40 000 with roughly half the precincts heard from. Chicago Apr 9 Illinois Republicans backed Coolidge over Johnson in yesterday's primary though a Californian candidate ran a close race in Chicago. McAdoo unopposed in Democratic presidential preference polled half as many votes as Chicago Democrats. his delegates were defeated by state group opposed to McAdoo.
Columbus April 9 Bids for the Columbus Alabama line project were opened by the Central of Georgia Railway. Chief engineer Captain C K Lawrence did not announce figures, but said the contract would likely be awarded in a few days. Estimated cost is about 4.5 million dollars. Roadbed from Columbus to Birmingham will be straightened in several locations and many grades removed.

Great Falls Montana April 9 United States senator Burton K Wheeler long associated with the senate Daugherty investigation committee was indicted by a federal grand jury He faces charges of unlawfully receiving money as retainer fees to influence oil and gas prospecting permit decisions by the commissioner general of the land office and the secretary of the interior.
Former Attorney General Daugherty announced that his unoccupied Columbia Ohio residence was entered by force last week and private papers from his law practice were rifled. He said nothing of value was stolen and did not say if he would involve federal or state officials.
Senator Wheeler said the indictment in Great Falls, Montana, was brought to disrupt the Senate inquiry into the Justice Department. He warned the move shows Daugherty’s influence persists and urged the investigation continue. He planned to depart but chose to stay for now, alleging Republican officials instigated the action to rush a trial.
