Debris left only a waterlogged hull, four unknown colored roustabouts perished, crew and passengers estimated at about ninety. Fire likely started in hold from a barrel of oil or varnish. several stevedores may have been trapped. Passenger list around eighty with crew ten. Rev J B Johnstone Seriously Injured In Landau Crash
The Columbus Enquirer reports Rev J B Johnstone formerly pastor of the First Methodist Americus was thrown from a landau near the Georgia Home Bank building. A broken bit caused the horse to rear and plunge wheel passed over Johnstone his lungs were crushed and his condition remained serious though not immediately fatal.

Howe Captured For Theft After Protracted Drunken Trip
Cordele marshal brought W C Howe through town charged with stealing a horse and buggy from Mr Thornton of Cordele. Howe says drunkenness caused his actions and he wandered via Fort Gaines Abbeville Americus and Cuthbert before surrendering. He pled ignorance and offered to repay damages, seeking Cordele mercy.
