Amarillo High netters divided Saturday actions hosting Jefferson and Burges. In Jefferson, girls swept while boys won some singles. Burges saw mixed results with boys doubles and girls doubles also contested. Tar Heels Rally to Beat Davidson for Eastern Regional Title

North Carolina overcame a six point first half deficit to defeat Davidson 70 66 and reach the national semifinals versus Ohio State in Los Angeles. The Tar Heels half time deficit was erased as Charlie Scott Larry Miller and Rusty Clark fueled the comeback while Davidson without injured Doug Cook struggled after leading 22 14 late in the first half. Columbia defeated St Bonaventure 95 75 for third place behind 20 points from Heyward Dotson and 18 from Bob Lanier.

City Swm Club in Oklahoma Meet Sooner AAU Invitational

Amarillo Aquatic Club placed in several events on the first day of two at the Sooner AAU Invitational swimming meet held at the University of Oklahoma North Campus Pool in Norman Oklahoma. Jim Cole competed in three events in the men s open and Larry Page swam three events in the 11 and 12 year old boys group.

Spearman Lynxettes Take Consolation Win In State Tourney

Spearman Lynxettes defeated Hamshire-Fannett 56-43 to claim third place in the Class AA Girls State High School Basketball Tournament. Led by Marcia Shieldknight’s 27 points, they built a second-half lead as Anna Mitchell of Hamshire-Fannett scored 20 first-half points before Spearman's defense limited her to seven after halftime. The Tascosa Rebels swept Tucumcari in a non conference baseball doubleheader on the weekend, 8-0 and 11-1, on the Tascosa diamond.
