Amarillo man aboard ship injured in collision fire
Hubert Don Clark, 43, of Amarillo, was among seamen on the African Star hurt in a collision and fire early Saturday. A physician at the U S Public Health Service Hospital in New Orleans said Clark had smoke inhalation and burns on his hands and was in satisfactory condition. His mother, Mrs Floy Clark, lives at 700 Buchanan.

Freighter Collides With Barges In Mississippi River Fire
A freighter African Star struck two fuel barges in a river bend near Pointe a la Hache Louisiana in pre dawn darkness. Eleven people were killed and 30 injured including crew and tourists from the United States New Zealand and Australia. Coast Guard helicopters rescued survivors and transported them to New Orleans area hospitals. The ship was heading toward the Gulf of Mexico when the blaze began.
