R V Hageman former Luby s Cafeteria manager signs a 10 year lease with Mr and Mrs F G Offutt of Oklahoma City to build a 120 foot by 50 foot modern cafeteria at 113 West Eighth Avenue occupying 6600 square feet. Mooney Sets Long-Distance Record For Light Planes

Al Mooney celebrated 25 years in aviation by setting a 1312 mile distance record for a light plane. The Wichita based executive flew from Brownsville Texas to Watertown South Dakota in 10 hours 44 minutes using 37 gallons of fuel costing 10.80 dollars.

Lake Search for 58 Lost on Plane Disaster

In Milwaukee on June 24 a missing DC-4 airliner with 58 aboard was feared lost after storm swept Lake Michigan. Wreckage and oil were spotted near Milwaukee, divers found nothing, and a raft with people aboard was misidentified as a yellow balloon. The plane was en route from New York to the West Coast and last radioed from over the lake before disappearing.

Willis Smith, Raleigh lawyer and opponent of Truman's fair deal, led the North Carolina senatorial primary. With 1,990 precincts, Smith held 258,565 votes to Graham's 233,807 as 1,724 precincts reported. Graham conceded the victory to Smith at 9 48 PM.
