$17 000 Award in Rowe Case

Judgment for 17000 awarded to Gertrude Rowe widow and her children in Amarillo in 108th District Court against the railroad. For the accident February 17 1932 to March 8 1932, the estate gets 2000 and Mrs Rowe plus two children receive 5000 each. The verdict finds Denver flagman J S Williamson negligent for not warning Willis Hill, but Rowe and Hill not found negligent. Watchman employed by railroad.

Memorial dedication planned for Matthew Hooks in Panhandle

The dedication of the Matthew Hooks Memorial in Bones Park North Heights will be June 19 with a 2:30 pm service and 3:30 pm barbecue. The monument honors Matthew Bones Hooks, a Panhandle Plains African American cowboy, with attendees from multiple Texas towns and nearby states. Volunteers seek pledges to finish construction, noting donors such as Mayor Ross D. Rogers and Judge H. E. Hoover. Survivors include wife and six children in California, New Mexico, and Texas.

Information of the death of Jim Crumby at Derry New Mexico has been received. Burial was in Socorro New Mexico. Crumby and his family lived in Amarillo for over 12 years and he worked for the Fred S Bone Construction Company.

College Warrants Now Are Cashable

Amarillo School tax collector George M. Waddill announces that holders of G warrants of Amarillo College may cash them at Amarillo National Bank. About $800 remains outstanding in the G series while H series also totals about $800. G warrants dated September 1, 1932. Warrants retired for delinquent taxes and tuition.

New Dempster Mill Manager Named for Amarillo Branch

O R Jack Allen, longtime Amarillo manager, is named general manager of sales for Dempster Mill Manufacturing Company with Beatrice Nebraska offices. He leaves Amarillo June 24 to assume duties. Robert E Lindell will replace him in Amarillo and has 17 years with the firm. The Amarillo branch serves the Panhandle Texas Eastern New Mexico and Oklahoma Panhandle with water well supplies windmills plumbing and heating equipment. British ships earned 260000000 in the last year.
