Tech Exes Back Pantex Plan for Agricultural Research Site

Lubbock's Community College and Tech ex-students committees joined the Lubbock Chamber of Commerce in endorsing the plan to transfer the 35 million dollar Pantex Ordnance Plant property near Amarillo for agricultural and scientific research. The board urged that use as a research adjunct will not affect the main Lubbock campus operations. Negotiations with the War Assets Administration aim for a contract in January, with Texas A&M and UT pursuing similar acquisition moves for other facilities.

Perfume Explosion Shuts Acton Soap Factory

Barrels of perfume exploded in a fire at a four story soap factory turning suburban Acton into a sea of scent. Firemen struggled through billowing soapsuds to save the building as a strong odor spread through the area. Nearby firms Meyers Motor Co Chrysler Plymouth and Diver Wiggins Lumber Co are listed in connection with the incident.

Indonesia says Dutch planes bomb Jogjakarta amid invasion claim

A Republic radio statement declares Dutch forces began a dawn invasion of Indonesia. Two Burlington Trailways buses collide and burn in Utah

In DELLE Utah two Burlington Trailways buses collided on US Highway 40 near Belle. At least 13 killed and 35 to 50 injured with 35 hospitalized. Among identified dead and injured are Daniel W Eggers of Salt Lake City and other victims from Utah Nevada Colorado and Nebraska. Authorities repair the crash scene as witnesses report a westbound bus attempting to pass a car before the collision.
