Violent Deaths Claim 36 in Texas Fires and Crashes

A wave of fires and deadly crashes across Texas killed 36 people. Four elderly residents perished in a Beaumont rest home fire. Five Weslaco High School football fans died in a Hallettsville head on crash. Five more perished in a Belton crash. In McAllen a gas explosion killed four small children.

A Christmas season fire toll in the United States and Canada reached at least 24 dead with 11 of the victims under 16. In New York City two blazes killed three unattended children, and cases across cities included a family tragedy for Edleen Lopez and siblings. Army Extends Contract With Procter and Gamble Defense Plant
