Beef steer prices fell sharply this week from last week’s high closing basis. Fat cows and heifers stayed steady to weak with light supplies, while vealers and heavy calves mostly dropped. Buyers paid up to 13.50 for prime yearlings, with many sale prices in the 7.75 to 9.75 range for medium to good cattle and feeders competing for value.

Oklahoma City December 17 Capshaw oil royalty dealer became the third person to face a prison term in the Oklahoma City school board royalty deals. Judge Lucius Babcock set sentences for December 23. The maximum is 16 years and a 5000 dollar fine. Capshaw was charged with Ed W Spivey and Frank Wilkins in a grand jury indictment alleging a $600 payoff connected with Wheeler School royalty. Spivey and Wilkins were convicted.
Out-of-town shoppers in Amarillo Saturday include Mr. and Mrs. T. J. Coffee and their son Jeff of McLean. Jeff had just returned Friday night from Kemper Military Academy after enrolling there last fall for his first semester. Mr. Coffee works as an official with Smith Refining Company.

Western Feeders Supply Company lists cottonseed quotations for Texas mills in Fort Worth on December 17. Prime loose hulls per ton 7.00 to 8.00 dollars. Prime cold pressed seed per ton 20.00 to 22.00 dollars. Prime cracked screened meat and cake 43 percent protein per ton 25.00 to 27.00 dollars.
Kansas City report notes Texas fed weighty heifers and New Mexico fattened lambs led this week’s livestock trade. Owners C. B. Edgar of Lamb County and Frank Peters of Chaves County shared honors. top heifers brought 9.50 per cwt on cattle averaging 864 pounds, while 267 head of 90 pound lambs sold at 8.65. H W Richards and Guy Thomas were arrested Friday night by Amarillo police on charges of driving while intoxicated in Randall County. They were released on bonds of 750 each after their car collided with the Dr C C Hess vehicle at Thirty sixth Avenue and Fulmore Street. Bonds were set by Justice of the Peace Mrs W J Flesher after arraignment.
