An explosives truck rammed into a ditch near Throckmorton killing its driver Roger Towery and nearby rancher Willis Buchanan. The blast occurred shortly after 2 PM about four miles south of Throckmorton, with shock waves felt in Throckmorton and heard in Woodson. Marion Gibson, Towery’s brother in law and manager of the Dupont plant at Stanton, said police identified Towery as the driver.
