Admiral King demands apology from group probing canal

Admiral Ernest J. King urged the Senate War Investigating Committee to publicly retract its criticism of him over the joint chiefs of staff 1943 recommendation to complete the 134 million dollar oil highway project in Canada. He defended Knox’s 1943 stand and argued the committee’s statement was technically incorrect and morally unjust. The canal project, started in 1942, envisioned sinking oil wells near Normal Wells and piping gasoline to White Horse refineries to defend Alaska and fuel the Canada Alaska road plan.
