South Korean forces pushed the front to the 38th parallel but were ordered to stop for regrouping by Allied command. Artillery pounded positions astride the border as leaders weighed future moves into North Korea and potential police actions.
Two men are jailed in connection with the Wednesday night burglary of Blackstone Cleaners at 914 Tyler. Charles Dunn, 23, held in county jail on $1,500 bond, and Andy Ward, 23, in city jail. Dunn, an ex employee, arraigned before Justice Bonita Wilkinson. Ward's arraignment pending. Cash register and several company checks were stolen. police recovered torn checks in the 200 block of Polk. Entry via a sawed padlock. Brown, owner, said no clothing was taken. The burglary was discovered at 6:10 am by patrols. The detective chief declined to reveal further details.
A suit filed in 108th District Court seeks 14098 dollars from Fred Hodges by Wayne Rankin after a May 6 car rollover near Bushland where Rankin was a passenger. He seeks compensation for temporary and permanent injuries.
at the Amarillo induction center 312 East Fifth, 23 of 30 Potter Oldham County men reported for pre induction processing and were slated to depart for Fort Gill later today by chartered bus. They underwent contagion screening and signed affidavits and the allegiance oath as part of the select process. The group had reported Sept 17 for examinations and history checks before the long waiting period dictated by Selective Service. Inductees listed include James F. Knutson Trancito A. Sanchez Harold H. Horne and others reaching Edward E Dickerson Jr.
Irma Jo Bolin, 26, was returned to Potter County from Northwest Texas Hospital this morning after being taken there yesterday with side pain. She remains in jail on a forgery charge.
Mrs J W Crudgington widow of Judge J W Crudgington is reported in serious condition at her home 2010 Madison after suffering a cerebral hemorrhage late Thursday afternoon. Eighty year old Eli Bacon of Baingree Eng reports he has just cut two new teeth saying they are good ones per doctor.

The Defense Department reports US casualties in the Korean War total 17,220 as of Sept 22 families notified. It breaks down to 2,441 dead, 11,050 wounded, and 3,959 missing, with 230 dying of wounds among the dead and wounded totals. 167 missing men returned to military control, 50 known to be prisoners of war.
Draft Director Lewis B. Hershey told the House Armed Services Committee the United States should extend veterans eligibility and raise the length of service to 30 months to sustain a three million man armed force. The sisters had not heard from their sibling for over 50 years after she fled her home and vanished in 1948. John J Fuerst, the court appointed administrator, located them after a two year search.
