Man sought in Eugene sex crime alleged in Amarillo case

Robert W. Thompson, wanted in Eugene for assault and felony rape of a 30 year old waitress, is being sought in Amarillo for questioning in a hit and run. Police say he abducted and brutalized the woman two weeks ago, forcing her into a vehicle in front of the North Seminole area. His brother is said to live in Amarillo.

Woman abducted after midnight battered in cornfield assault

A woman who had left work at a local restaurant was knocked unconscious and driven to a corn field outside town where she was assaulted. Officers say the abduction followed her getting off duty shortly after midnight. The victim described a two hour struggle, regaining consciousness before being ejected at a road.

Woman identifies attacker as “Jimmy” in Eugene case

Deputy Mooney says the woman knew her assailant only as Jimmy a customer at her restaurant and had not dated him. Police seek a man driving a 1935 Plymouth with Oregon plates who fled Eugene. The deputy notes Thompson likely came to Eugene from California to work for a construction firm about six months ago.

Fast Raid Frees 91 Captive GI's

A fast joint American and South Korean operation freed 91 captive U.S. soldiers at Kamwon and Hadong, with 32 air miles southeast and 65 miles from Taejon. Lt. Col. John Corley of Brooklyn and Lt. Col. W. G. Colvin of Greensboro led columns that linked at Namwon and swept through a Red guerrilla stronghold, overrunning ammunition dumps and enemy trucks as mop up tasks began.

SOVIETS GRILL YANKS IN KOREA CAPTURE TALE

Assess Parents For Vandalism In Forest Hills Incident

Two 10 year olds ran wild at Forest Hills school last Sunday causing repairs totaling 400 dollars. Juvenile authorities, the boys' parents and school board officials met to set the amount and determine responsibility. The youths were paroled to their parents after the incident.

One-Pinball Machines Are All Shot Here

County wide crackdown on one ball pinball devices labeled as gambling machines by County Atty John Peterson. Sheriff Paul Gaither said notices were sent to businesses to remove the devices after deputy saw a pay off to a player. Players control odds with a button under the machine, prompting belief the devices encouraged wagering. Page 10.

Trial of Ewald Johnson and wife in car theft

In Amarillo federal court Ewald Johnson, 25, ex-soldier from Munising Michigan, and his 19 year old wife Diana arrive for a charged car theft case linked to Tex Thornton's murder. Johnson was acquitted in the murder trial. both are free on 2500 dollar bonds as pleas and contested actions proceed.
