Five Jurors Picked in Hart Statutory Case Trial

Ted Hart an 18 year old Smelter worker stands trial for a statutory offense in district court. Five jurors were chosen from a 75 member special venue and testimony will begin after the jury is seated. Hart’s mother wept as he sat in the courtroom. The trial is expected to run through Friday with a verdict possible that night.

McLean Delegation Heads to Amarillo Fair

Tri State Fair hopeful for $12,000 hurdle with grandstand shows

Wilbur C. Hawk, president, says $1,780 earned yesterday leaves about $12,000 to reach self financing for the 1928 Free Tri State Fair. He urges Amarillo citizens and Panhandle residents to attend tonight's Schooley and Collins Winter Garden revue and the Leonard Stroud rodeo each afternoon, aiming for full value and financial success.

John Coolidge Car Crash Not Harmed In Collision

Two people were injured in a New Haven crash involving Governor John H. Trumbull's chauffeur and passenger John Coolidge son of President Coolidge. Wilfred Veno and his mother Mrs Mary Veno were hospitalized with facial lacerations bruises and possible skull fracture. Coolidge and the chauffeur were unhurt.

Moody Grants Robert Silver Third Reprieve

Governor Dan Moody granted Robert Silver a third reprieve effective until October 26 to allow the court of criminal appeals to act on a second motion for rehearing. Moody declined to intervene further in the cases of Tom Ross and T. Alexander, who are scheduled to die tonight.

Democratic leaders forecast large Amarillo rally Friday

Democratic campaign leaders in Amarillo expect a large crowd Friday after noon at the Fairgrounds for a speaking program to follow the rodeo. Texas congressmen Guvin Williams and Sam Rayburn will address the crowd at 4 o clock. The Fair management has provided the grandstand for the event. The congressmen campaign across the state for the national ticket as part of the national speakers bureau.

Plains Exhibits in East Being Returned Here

The six weeks tour of the Lanhan Cie Plains of Texas Inc exhibits promoting immigration from Kansas and Nebraska ends and materials return to Amarillo. Part of the Kansan exhibit arrived earlier this week via Hamilton Luna. J B Hill, the other Kansas manager, plans to return to Hereford today. The third exhibit will not finish its tour until October 7.

Tulsa Hornets blank Dalhart Tigers on Tri-State gridiron

The Tulsa high school Hornets defeated the Dalhart Tigers 12 to 0 this morning at the Tri-State Fair park. Hornet fullback Er Stallings scored both touchdowns including an 80 yard run and a 20 yard dash. Kicking failed on both attempts.

Anderson Found Guilty in Mask Case at Canton

Cain Anderson Harrison County farmer was found guilty of violating the Texas Anti Mask law and sentenced to eight years in the state penitentiary. The 1927 flogging of Mr. and Mrs. J. H. Richardson was the alleged act, with De Witt Osborne testifying as a surprise witness and receiving a one-year term after pleading guilty.
