Auto caravans from Plainview and McLean lead crowds to Fair Park for morning record attendance at the Tri State Fair. Amarillo workers take half day, with expectations of near record turnout this afternoon and evening.

A Prairie View Normal Hospital fire near Hempstead Texas kills one enslaved person and injures twelve as patients leap from upper stories. The adjacent doctor’s residence is razed and Missouri Taylor a Houston negress is found dead in the ruins.
Ted Hart an 18 year old Smelter worker stands trial for a statutory offense in district court. Five jurors were chosen from a 75 member special venue and testimony will begin after the jury is seated. Hart’s mother wept as he sat in the courtroom. The trial is expected to run through Friday with a verdict possible that night.
McLean sends a several hundred strong delegation led by the high school band under Prof. Robert C. Davidson to the Amarillo Tri State Fair. They arrived after 10 am, paraded downtown, and were welcomed by fair officials as McLean burned sirens to wake residents for the trip.
Amarillo residents Leo Smith and Lillian Collier announce their marriage last week and have moved to 17 North Pierce street to establish a home. Mr. Smith works at the W F Crawford outfitting store.
Wilbur C. Hawk, president, says $1,780 earned yesterday leaves about $12,000 to reach self financing for the 1928 Free Tri State Fair. He urges Amarillo citizens and Panhandle residents to attend tonight's Schooley and Collins Winter Garden revue and the Leonard Stroud rodeo each afternoon, aiming for full value and financial success.
Two people were injured in a New Haven crash involving Governor John H. Trumbull's chauffeur and passenger John Coolidge son of President Coolidge. Wilfred Veno and his mother Mrs Mary Veno were hospitalized with facial lacerations bruises and possible skull fracture. Coolidge and the chauffeur were unhurt.
Governor Dan Moody granted Robert Silver a third reprieve effective until October 26 to allow the court of criminal appeals to act on a second motion for rehearing. Moody declined to intervene further in the cases of Tom Ross and T. Alexander, who are scheduled to die tonight.
Democratic campaign leaders in Amarillo expect a large crowd Friday after noon at the Fairgrounds for a speaking program to follow the rodeo. Texas congressmen Guvin Williams and Sam Rayburn will address the crowd at 4 o clock. The Fair management has provided the grandstand for the event. The congressmen campaign across the state for the national ticket as part of the national speakers bureau.
The six weeks tour of the Lanhan Cie Plains of Texas Inc exhibits promoting immigration from Kansas and Nebraska ends and materials return to Amarillo. Part of the Kansan exhibit arrived earlier this week via Hamilton Luna. J B Hill, the other Kansas manager, plans to return to Hereford today. The third exhibit will not finish its tour until October 7.
The Tulsa high school Hornets defeated the Dalhart Tigers 12 to 0 this morning at the Tri-State Fair park. Hornet fullback Er Stallings scored both touchdowns including an 80 yard run and a 20 yard dash. Kicking failed on both attempts.
Rumor from New York reports Col. Charles A. Lindbergh's potential interest in show girl Blanche Satchel. Satchel denies confirmation, noting embarrassment if contradicted, with few verifiable details and mixed party sightings. Grover Loening confirms Satchel planned to attend a party at his home. Lindbergh not seen outside.
Dr John Roach Straton pastor of Cavalry Baptist New York arrives Amarillo Sunday morning at 7 80 to address an auditorium gathering and then to Pampa before returning for a 2 30 program He will attack Governor Alfred E Smith and Tammany Hall while not delivering a religious sermon. Accompanying him is Aticus Webb of the Texas Anti Saloon League Hundreds of visitors are expected with plans to also speak in Plainview Sunday night.
Cain Anderson Harrison County farmer was found guilty of violating the Texas Anti Mask law and sentenced to eight years in the state penitentiary. The 1927 flogging of Mr. and Mrs. J. H. Richardson was the alleged act, with De Witt Osborne testifying as a surprise witness and receiving a one-year term after pleading guilty.
Al Nelson and his wife, residents of Dalhart, appeared at the Tri-State Fair exposition yesterday and plan to stay in Amarillo for several days. Nelson is a well known figure in Dalhart and is the son in law of W H Latham. Potter County Lbr Co Dial 64386.
Claude business men close doors Friday to attend Amarillo Tri-State exposition. They urge customers to join Claude Mustangs for a Panhandle game at 10:45 Friday morning with Panhandle High School. Panhandle delegation expected. schools dismissed until Monday per Superintendent Law Sone.
The Winter Garden Revue at Tri-State fair grounds ends the first show and previews a full program tonight at 8 15 featuring costumes replica of Leon Errol Sally numbers designed by Margaret Greene Bishop worn by seven dancers who performed Sally in St Louis Audiences favor the Indian dance and request its return while A D Scott promises an even bigger show for the week.
