Lyle Messner, 16, confessed killer of Catherine Forrest, 6, will be tried October 4 on a first degree murder indictment after a judge refused a plea to second degree murder. The case involved luring a child to a vacant house, attacking her, and choking her to death.
Victor Locke superintendent of the Five Civilized Tribes and a lieutenant colonel in the army reserve corps, was jailed in Pashmataha county after fatally shooting Abner Battiste a full blood Choctaw Indian at Battiste's home. Locke admitted the shooting but gave no reason. Louis E Gossett county attorney said Battiste died instantly.
