Building Plans for Amarillo YMCA Progress Despite Space Limits
The Amarillo YMCA plans a new building 35 by 65 feet to house a broad program including softball baseball swimming square dancing youth clubs and camps. With 31 men’s YMCA softball teams last year and 620 members the organization drew about 28 000 spectators monthly at Thompson Park Fair Park and Veterans Administration Park. Free swimming lessons at Thompson Pool and a summer square dance club are highlighted as core activities. The project faces timing uncertainties but ongoing programs continue with fall and winter activities and community fundraising efforts.
