Faris Sept 200W The assassinated Count Folke Bernadotte urged the United Nations in his last report to recognize the Jewish state of Israel and to force Arabs and Jews to proclaim formal Peace in Palestine. The 150 page report warned the Assembly must act now to replace the Palestine truce with a permanent settlement. Lochmonar Stricken freighter adrift near Cuba with 73 aboard

The British freighter Lochmonar, 9,000 tons, trapped by a hurricane off Cuba, reported all passengers and crew safe aboard as winds near 100 mph drove it toward the Cuban coast. Five fuel tanks holed, three holds taking on water, auxiliary pumps working, sky clearing, tug Curb standby. Junior Deputy Force To Aid New Sheriff

Potter County sheriff Paul Gaither to swear in several hundred junior deputies next January. Ages 13 to 20 will receive commission with same authority as deputies but no firearms. Eligibility requires two citizen recommendations, three years known, and adherence to rules. Lieutenant deputies to oversee groups. merit-based promotions. Plans mirror programs in other cities. Fishermen urged to buy tickets for park fish fry

G I Divorcing Soviet Wife Over Letter Ban Claim

A US air forces sergeant filed for divorce from Antonia Tarasova in Moscow whom he wed Dec 6 1946. He claims no contact with his Soviet wife due to a supposed US ban on letters. Tarasova, still in Moscow, alleges hardship and cites a lack of letters after their son’s birth. Her divorce notice appeared in Moscow papers July 6. Phillips, on leave from Bolling Field, declined comment. The suit was filed in Northhampton County Court by Edmund P. Turtzo.

Boy Kills Father Ends Decade of Fear

An 18 year old youth killed his father, a prominent executive, with a pistol given by his mother after a decade of terror. David Heidenreich confessed, saying he and his mother feared the father who had threatened them repeatedly. Heidenreich claimed his father had harmed his wife and caused family distress. The shooting occurred after a dispute over nursing care for his wife. The incident is reported on page 3.

Wary US Sits Tight in Korea

The State Department said American troops will stay in Korea while the UN General Assembly considers the Korean problem. Russia accused of failing to withdraw forces from both sides, claiming withdrawal from northern and southern Korea. Washington viewed Moscow’s claim as propaganda to pressure the UN gathering in Paris. The note warns against rapid evacuations and points to Russia as claiming to defend Korea’s freedom.
