New State Retirement Plan Detailed for Public Employees
James G. Lott of the State Highway Department outlines a new state retirement plan effective this month. Employees contribute 5 percent of earnings, matched dollar for dollar by the state, with annual deductions capped at 180 dollars. Employees earn 3 percent interest on savings, and long-service older workers receive a special 1.5 percent per year credit. Eligible staff may retire after 20 years, with benefits delayed until age 60 unless 30 years of service prompts earlier subsistence.
