Ten American soldiers repelled a 2,000 strong Yugoslav march on Trieste at a frontline outpost. Trieste was declared an internationalized free city with a neighboring free state, amid postwar readjustment and Allied support for Italian resistance. Maj. Gen. Terence Airey led the Allied briefing.
Airy reported 10 US troops posted at Outpost 5 north of Trieste repelled a 2,000 strong Yugoslav assault near Goriano to Prosseco. He described the clashes as a tense, bloodless stand as Trieste was proclaimed a free city and Yugoslavs sought to enter the city rather than hinterland.
The second UN General Assembly opened in Flushing with Russia US strains. Oswaldo Aranha presided after a surprise vote over Evatt, as Latin American nations back Aranha. Aranha urged leaders to reject war and pursue peace as Marshall leads a US delegation.

Longhorn League umpires assigned to tonight's playoff between Big Spring and Ballinger refused to work citing lack of police protection after threats by fans following last night's 5-3 Big Spring win. League president Green ordered substitutes if needed and the game will be played as scheduled.
The Philharmonic Orchestra will rehearse tonight at the Episcopal Parish House Hall Ninth and Fillmore instead of the high school band room. Rehearsal begins at 8 30 p m and Conductor Robert Louis Barron asks members to bring music stands.
Electra Texas September hazing incident at Electra High School freshmen involved stripping naked and running in front of moving cars. Deputies Fraker and McDowall said others were bound with tape and subjected to painful punishment. Several youths had earlier been left naked on railroad tracks before a parent was alerted.
Louise Overell testified she and co defendant George Gollum bought dynamite at her father’s request two days before a yacht exploded killing Mr. and Mrs. Walter Overell in Newport harbor. She said she missed USC class to iron shirts for Bud and helped clear a Flint Ridge mansion after the blast to make space for his sister.
Opening testimony in the Leroy Murphy murder case included a bid to suppress evidence claimed to be obtained by illegal search. The motive centers on whether Louis Murphy had the right to permit entry into the family home at 1108 North Arthur.
