In 1924 Star Co reports Saks Fifth Avenue plans an uptown store between Forty-ninth and Fiftieth streets near the Cathedral signaling expansion in New York. The piece notes branches in major cities as a solution to growing demand and discusses distribution benefits for the nation.
Deputy Game Warden B D Gorman reports swift action against lawbreakers, with J R Chilton paying 110.70 after arrest for hunting without a license. Several others from Wichita Falls to Shamrock face fines for killing plover, exceeding chicke n limits, or shooting out of season. Jeff D Bartlett city manager nearly collided with a car while reading a Safety First sign in downtown during Safety First Week. He says the mishap was a joke on him and avoided a real accident.
In Amarillo officials and Kiwanis members launch a Safety First educational campaign. Twenty sign posts warn at dangerous corners and Look to Your Left appears at downtown corners. Pledge to drive carefully is to be signed next week, emphasizing pedestrian rights and obedience to laws to reduce accidents.
At Maywood field the three pilots Lieutenant Lowell H. Smith Erik Nelson and Leigh Wade completed a 294 mile leg from Dayton in under three hours landing near 1 p m Chicago time. Families greeted them as an escort of mounted and motorcycle officers led a large crowd around the field and along the three mile track.
Finishing touches on two buildings and wiring decor fill the Amarillo Tri-State Exposition grounds. Officials move headquarters to the fair grounds as county exhibits arrive midweek. Miss Anna Dower and Miss Willie Lee Martin coordinate large displays. Cotton Belt Carnival arrives next Sunday and should be installed within ten days. All departments expect completion by Thursday with wiring and decorations finished by Saturday night.
The Associated Press reports heavy fighting along the Shanghai to Nanking railway west of Shanghai as rival Chinese factions struggle for control. In Northern China, Wu Pei Fu’s Chihli forces push toward the eastern end of the great wall at Shanthaikwan and reports say the Peking Mukden railway may be cut on the Manchurian side.
Hobart, brother of Edward Hobart slain near Bivins stadium July 14, arrived in Amarillo to aid investigators. He plans to hire a top Kansas lawyer if needed and says an additional life insurance policy brings his brother’s total coverage to 10 500.
Lewis E. Sands a wholesale bean dealer known as the worlds bean king has disappeared leaving his company and 28 receiving stations idle under an attorney ordered shutdown. Liabilities exceed assets by 300000 to 500000. A philanthropist and wartime supplier to Allies, Sands built a vast business, and friends cite health strain from years of devotion to work.
Galveston Texas September 15 The firm Peabody Houghtling and Company plans a large paper mill at Texas City to be built near term. Alexander Smith president reports the $5 million Texas City sugar refining plant is complete and will supply pulp wood from Trinity and Brazos bottoms to produce craft paper similar to Swedish imports.
Marvin Mc Cullough spoke before the Ad Club at the Amarillo Hotel during the noon luncheon about a leading business’s tangible assets and the risk of tying up capital in competitive lines. The club will not meet next week due to the Tri-State fair.

The Amarillo Bar Association selected Madden as special judge to act as county judge while Judge Motton travels to El Paso. The Coffee Shop at the Amarillo Hotel is known as Famous For Food.
Over $300 was taken at the seat sale for the Mary McCormic concert Friday evening at the municipal auditorium. Tickets are on sale this week at Lindsay-Doubleday Drug Company, parquet seats $1.50 and balcony $1. Parquet seats are selling rapidly.
Arkansas City Kansas reports another oil pool opened five miles northeast of town after the Alcorn Oil Company brought in the She han well.
Fire in Monterey California destroys about twenty acres after a lightning strike ignites a 55 000 barrel oil tank. Four soldiers from the Monterey Presidio die, four others burned to death, and more than thirty people are hospitalized with burns as explosions and flames continue into the early hours.
J D Wrather, arriving from Long Beach, will go to Wichita Falls tomorrow for a definite decision on building a 150000 dollar Panhandle refinery. He says negotiations with Silk and Pridy are agreed and, barring unforeseen delays, the Panhandle refinery will be built. Wrather owns the Big Four refinery in Long Beach and has interests in other plants.
Amarillo and Plainview Elks prepare for a friendly rivalry at the ball park with Lupher as pitcher for Amarillo and Selders catching. Tom Gallagher leads as field captain as both teams dust off uniforms for the game at 4 30 p m and a slate of players fills in at infield and outfield positions.

The Fort Worth Supply company selects W. P. Cooper to build a warehouse at Second and Fillmore streets for 16 193 dollars. EB F. Rittenberry is architect. Construction starts immediately and should finish by November 25.

A swimmer under the name W Hargis from Galveston won five dollars in a half mile race at Harding’s Ranch yesterday afternoon with a 21 minute time. Two Amarillo youths closed in near the end but cramps and assistance kept them from contesting the leader. A large crowd attended with plans for a big dance prize night Saturday.
New York on September 15 reports a break of about 3.50 a bale in the cotton market under a renewed selling movement that has driven prices lower through the past week.
The forecast calls for fair weather tonight and Tuesday with warmer temperatures tonight. Today’s high reached a modest level while this time last year stood at 70 degrees. the low today was 55 and yesterday’s low was 38.
