Winter Weather Hits Amarillo With Cold, Wind and Rain
A cold wave reached the Amarillo area driving temperatures down to 49 degrees and bringing gusty winds up to 50 mph. Rain and hail fell with 2 inches in downtown Amarillo, the highway south of town was underwater in places, and trees and signs were damaged. Weatherman H C Winburn noted frost in western Kansas and snow in southeast Wyoming as clouds lingered, with drier air expected to move in and clearing skies likely for the Panhandle tomorrow. Grover remains the wet spot with 1.70 inches Saturday night and 0.70 inches last night, making six inches in the first ten days of September. Gruver continues heavy rainfall, and motorists report strong winds from the south while heading into Amarillo.
