Governor Dan Moody announced that progress toward relief for Texas drought farmers was near, calling the state drought committee to meet in Haskell next Monday. He reported promises of aid from intermediate credit banks and assigned two Red Cross workers to the affected area. He also received letters from Secretary Hyde and Alexander Legge about relief and temporary freight-rate certifications, sending a list of counties to Hyde for emergency rates and detailing a new, more liberal credit production loan plan with M. Oklahoma City September 11 The state supreme court ended the two week old temporary writ of prohibition stopping the corporation commission from enforcing oil proration rules against D C Julian Oil and Royalty Co The court did not rule on Julian’s constitutional challenge but signaled a shift in attitude after a closed door conference and Tuesday hearing Justice J Berry King and oil company counsel reported the writ’s vacation without further details

In Messina Italy a volcanic eruption on Stromboli and a concurrent earthquake left a score of people dead and fifty or more injured. Lava cascaded from the cone onto San Bartolo and surrounding villages as rescue craft and city firemen from Messina hurried to deliver provisions tents and medical aid to the victims.
Geneva dispatch reports Arthur Henderson stating Britain desires any action on Briand’s European federation plan to be sanctioned by the League of Nations. Briand urged a legally bound framework for European cooperation and disarmament, praising the Briand Kellogg pact and London conference progress while stressing alliance with the United States should be enhanced through an European organization. Twenty seven nations have studied the question and voiced support for the effort toward peace.
Willie Copeland, a Negro boy under 18, may go to trial in juvenile court Friday on a murder charge. He has been in Potter county jail since last spring awaiting the case. It was indicated today Copeland would plead guilty and accept a sentence to the reform school.
In Santa Fe two circus lions Queenie and Duke, left over a $200 unpaid bill, are described as causing a public unrest and a growing crisis as residents, the mayor, and the Humane Society report the animals crying through the night and crowding the city’s patience with the looming circus debt.
Five persons are dead after three shootings in Tesne today. Victims include George W. Cook and Celeste Cook of El Paso, George Wilton Cook Jr. of El Paso, Dominico Polite of Port Arthur, and Charlie Walker of Liane. An apparent workplace shooting at a refinery injured Alex Leger while Ray Click surrendered to police.
Applicants for certificates as licensed druggists completed a three day examination by the state board of pharmacy and left for home to await results in several weeks. Walter H. Cousins of Dallas, secretary of the board, noted five sets of two questions were answered by 12 applicants and grading will be a sizable task. Amarillo hosted the board and applicants generously, with the next examination planned for San Antonio in January.
The Associated Press reports Judge Overstreet ruled natural death after the body of an unidentified white man was found in a Houston park. He had been dead several days and authorities initially suspected choking with a wire found near the body.
Frank J. Weller reports government estimates show August reduced national corn yields by about 260 million bushels from projections. The August forecast cut state yields in Illinois, Iowa, Missouri, and others, with Nebraska up slightly, and Arkansas hit hardest at 7,752,000 bushels, roughly a quarter of 1924 output.
Eighteen testing planes began the 1930 national air tour from Ford airport at 10 03 a m with Maj J Carell Cane piloting the Eagle Aircraft entry. The route ran Detroit to Canada's prairie provinces and back over 14 days covering 42 states and provinces. The tour tests reliability of commercial aircraft under land and over long distances with prizes including a trophy and cash.
United Press reports a confrontation between Republican and Democratic publicity forces over the Democratic national committee. The charge, presented by Rep Charles Tilson, cites James W. Gerard's sworn reports showing Raskob lent or contributed substantial funds to the committee, while Democratic publicity officials rebut Florida claims of Republican progress.
