Franchise Tax Plan Approved by City Commission

The city moved to levy up to 2 percent on gross receipts of bus and taxicab firms under city franchises or permits, expected to yield about 25 000 yearly. Tax receipts split roughly 15 300 from taxis and 9 600 from buses, becoming effective in about a month with pro rata payments this year. The ordinance excludes passenger carriers with Railroad or Interstate Commerce Commission permits and amends the transportation code. A second amendment requiring six month health exams for taxi drivers also passed first reading.
