Benjamin H. Turner, a mild mannered U S accountant from Mexico City, killed James D. Hallen in Falmouth Foreside after a 3000 mile pursuit to settle a score over Turner’s life savings. Turner previously faced murder charges in Mexico and was acquitted in 1923 with help from the American colony.
Memphis captured the team title at the Northwest Texas golf championship held at Amarillo Country Club with a 323. Amarillo CC finished second at 334, Hillcrest 336, and Lubbock 346. Individual low scores tied at 77 by Walter Sikes, Sam West, and Bill Brown on a day of slippery greens and cold weather.

The Texas railroad commission granted Dixon Creek Oil company permission to store up to one million barrels of Panhandle oil in a covered earthen tank at the head of a Hutchinson county canyon. Tex Mellroy of Amarillo testified that rail and pipeline capacity are inadequate and that the company must store oil to relieve a production of 28,000 barrels daily.
The Red River National Bank robbers, shot dead as they fled the bank in Clarksville, were killed by Ranger Captain Tom Hickman Ranger Stuart Stanley and Constable B Q Ivy who fired from across the street after a tip. The afternoon incident netted a $10000 loot. The Coffee Shop at the Amarillo Hotel is famous for food.
Charles Greenwood 22 was killed and Hoyet Shelton 22 seriously wounded when Assistant Chief Cy Thigpen opened fire near a country bridge after officers tried to arrest them for drunkenness. Greenwood, Shelton oil field workers, were not married. Greenwood was son of Ed Greenwood of Putnam, Callahan county, while Shelton was son of A J Shelton of Borger.
Luther Hughes of Amarillo was found guilty on one of two counts and sentenced to one year and a day for illegal transportation of liquor. Jack Reagan got five years in the penitentiary for burglary, suspended on jury foreman recommendation, released on bond. Valentine Cortez was found not guilty of murder of A. Martinez. J. W. Crocker presided. Cortez’s defense claimed Martinez attacked his home. Santa Fe railroad employee Cortez. International Derrick and Equipment Co. awarded $954.84 plus interest against Quaker Oil Co. and others for debts owed.

P C Bennett formerly Swisher county agent and Tulia resident is the new Potter county county agent and manager of the Board of City Development agriculture department. Harmon Benton becomes Swisher county agent and moves to Tulsa. Bennett has farmed in Hansford and served as county agent in Donley Dallam Swisher. He will help create a Panhandle agricultural plan with Amarillo. Meeting created the department and appointed executive committee chairmen and an agricultural advisory board.
Maudene Munn six year old daughter of Mr and Mrs W L Munn Cement Oklahoma killed yesterday afternoon when a roll of linoleum protruding from a truck smashed her while riding in a car on the Panhandle highway. burial set for Cement with N S Griggs and Sons funeral directors assisting. The Munns and their three children were en route to Amarillo to visit a brother D H Adkinson when the accident happened.
German copper magnate Richard Merton testified in federal court about receiving $6.5 million in government money linked to German owned stock of the American Metal Co. He described meetings with John T. King and Jesse W. Smith as part of efforts to secure a hearing and payment. The trial of Harry M. Daugherty and Thomas W. Miller paused for Jewish New Year holiday observances.
Leo Rice speed driver plans a 2:30 AM start from Amarillo to Corpus Christi in a Pontiac coach stock car under Glacierrte Gulf Highway association. A prior attempt was halted by mud and a steel shard piercing the crankcase between Big Springs and Sterling City. he returned to Amarillo for a fresh start.
