At Eastham Prison Farm a convict escaped from the bakery and was later recaptured. T. E. Kelley, jailed for robbery from Wood and Galveston counties, fled with bloodhounds pursuing him. Jimmy Merriman, who killed a guard during a 1931 escape, was captured shortly after fleeing. Merriman and Kelley have prior escape records.
Manila, P I Sept 7 An army spokesman said all leaves were canceled in U S Army units locally issued orders not from Washington. He noted soldiers normally visit China during leaves and it is inadvisable to go there at present.

Hobart Oklahoma September 7 a 17 year old youth killed when he fell from a freight train was identified by his mother as Earl Dean Cummins the only child who escaped death in the New London Tex school explosion last March The tragedy connects the survivor to the infamous disaster that year and notes the family loss remains.

The state announced ready in the cases of June Beavers charged with auto theft and Ernest Berry charged with theft from a person. A 17 year old inmate O Neal Dell and a 15 year old juvenile Barthelmas escaped Potter County jail this morning. Dell operated the jail elevator and Barthelmas had been kept in a juvenile cell for special treatment. Officers said the pair planned the escape during the night and slipped down the elevator.

Seagoville reports Matt Holt aged 66 died when a bolt of lightning struck while he worked in a cotton field about three miles from town yesterday. He was approaching a cotton wagon at the time of the strike.
Amarillo will begin decorating for the Tri State Fair in September 2025. O L Ted Taylor secretary manager of the exposition urged Amarillo business firms to cooperate in the decorating plans.
