E. W. McNutt a 50 year old Fort Worth & Denver roundhouse hostler lost his left arm Sunday while working at a cinder pit near the roundhouse. He was reported resting fairly well at St. Anthony's Hospital this morning. Home is 506 Birmingham Street.
A fire in Channing Texas destroyed eight business establishments valued around 100000 dollars. The blaze began in the Channing Drug Store and spread to the post office building as winds fanned flames. Two banks were damaged but saved by residents and guards patrolled the town through the night. One call went to Dumas and Dalhart.
Hundreds of Texans and Oklahomans gathered at Gainesville to celebrate the opening of the free bridge across the Red River boundary. Brief ceremonies led to a formal opening with Miss Berrian Webb of Gainesville christening the bridge with Red River water. The structure, built by Texas and Oklahoma, sits seven miles north of the city.
Delegates from American Business Clubs of Texas and Oklahoma attend the annual sixth district convention in Lubbock. District Governor J G Crowley of Enid presides with national president H C Blankenbiller of Reading as a guest. Registration nears fifty with the opening session set before noon.
Tri State Fair officials relocate all business to the fair grounds effective Monday morning. The office opens 7 30 to 10 each day with O L Taylor, secretary, available for concession space for the fair September 21 to 26. For inquiries call 8878.
Gov Huey P Long argues cotton legislation limiting acreage will not raise prices. He appeals to Texas lawmakers and public to pass a law banning planting in 1932, criticizing partial restrictions as unconstitutional and unenforceable. He notes land planted cannot be accurately sworn and warns against any half measures.
Cleveland sees twelve competitors line up for the Thompson Trophy race, the 100 mile finale of the eleventh national air races. A 6:30 p.m. start promises speeds over 250 mph with $15,000 awarded to the winner.
