Wichita Flier Leads Field in Transcontinental Race

Earl Rowland of Wichita Kansas again led the class A transcontinental air derby from New York to Los Angeles on the Wichita to Oklahoma City leg. Rowland arrived at the Municipal Airport at 10 47 a m in a Cessna monoplane, forging ahead as others trailed. The field saw shifts with Robert Dake and Duke Close close behind, and weather delaying the New York to Los Angeles Class B races.

Differential Rates North on Rock Island Ordered

Letters urged schools to close for one day during the Amarillo Tri-State exposition from September 22 to 29 to enable students to visit the fair and enjoy free gate. Mrs. Phebe K. Warner and S. A. Tibbets spoke at Canyon urging dismissal. over fifty teachers backed the plan. Also, the Texas railroad commission ordered higher differential freight rates north of Amarillo to Grover on the Amarillo Liberal Rock Island line.

Boy Returned on Charge of Auto Theft

Steve Reicher a 17 year old Dayton Ohio youth was brought back to Amarillo and placed in Potter County Jail charged with auto theft. The car said to be in Amarillo was returned with him. He was arrested on the highway between Amarillo and Oklahoma City when the car stalled. Reicher says he did not possess the car and that the driver who rode him to a nearby farmhouse for parts gave him a lift when officers arrived.

Four Men Held in Kidnapping and Strangling of Baby Boy in N Y

Four men were arrested in New York over the kidnapping and murder of six year old Salvatore Santomoreo at Coney Island. Panorella admitted luring Salvatore and his brother but implicated Jerry Perino John Marisco and Pasquale Borello in the killing.

Shakespeare Play Tonight At Municipal Auditorium

A Shakespearian play featuring about 200 children will be staged at the Municipal Auditorium tonight at 8 o'clock. Directed by Mrs. Vernon Hogan, the program supports the summer playground and recreational work of the Board of City Development. Three youths held on theft charge in Amarillo

Three boys aged 14 to 16 were returned from Vega to Potter county jail in Amarillo after arrest in a long ago car theft case. Named Halle Karr Harold Yeager and Bernard Whitton all from Oklahoma City, they claimed they bought the car from a man in Amarillo and were bound for Arizona to visit an uncle when arrested.
